GUIDON staff Intramural women’s volleyball leagues have had a problem in past years. Forfeitures. According to Danny Howell, Morale, Welfare and Recreation sports specialist, the challenge had been getting six women onto the court. So, the fix being tried this year is simple; go with just four people on each side of the net. It was also hoped that having fewer people on each team would let more teams be formed, thus more games for each team, and would increase participation. So far, forfeits are down. For the players, the main difference is what you would expect it to be. “You’ve got more floor space to cover. So, when the tips and that come, you’ve got to really (hustle) to get there. Otherwise, game point for them,” Lindsey Fisher said. Fisher is a member of Dig It, one of the seven teams in the league. She and her teammates; Torie Wilson, Kelly McBride, Gina Street and Sylena Schendel have been doing well. Their current record is 5-1, and that one loss was close. “It was tight, 24-25,” Schendel said. That one score shows another thing different from the traditional game, teams do not have to win by two points. Another difference is that, while the ball can only be hit three times before it goes back over the net, the first and third hit can be made by the same player. The Dig It team continued their winning ways last week taking the Protestant Women of the Chapel team 1 in two games, 25-16, 25-23, and then doing the same to U 1A B ME, 25-7, 25-15. In other women’s league games played, Nov. 12, the Ya Ya’s defeated 58th Transportation Battalion, 25-7, 25-6, and then defeated PWOC 2 25-9, 25-12. ![]() Dig It’s Sylena Schendel sends a spike across the net against PWOC1 during there game last week.
